HONAHAR BETI is a summer vacation grooming course for girls under the aegis of ‘Women’s Empowerment Programme’. It is being conducted since 2006 by the Ladies Committee members of Kolsa Mohalla Halai Memon Jamat sponsored of World Memon Foundation, India Chapter and coordinated by All India Memon Jamat Federation. The course was actually designed for rural areas; however, to make it interesting and successful, new additions were done such as lectures by experts in their respective fields, introduction of Home Science skills and outdoor visits.
This summer too, the 7th batch of HONAHAR BETI was organized for seven weeks starting from 15.04.2014. A total of 30 students participated. A trained and experienced teacher was overall in-charge besides other teachers being appointed for Mehendi, Beauty, Cooking and Fancy Work. Professionals and lecturers were invited to give knowledge in computer, career guidance, self defense, nutrition and hypertension. Outdoor visits included bank, police station and picnic. At the end of the course, examinations were held.
The successful candidates were felicitated in a small concluding function on 31.05.2014 at the Jamat khana premises. The function started with Tilawat-e-Qur’an by the trustee Janab M. Husain Porbanderwala. Janab A. Aziz Machhiwala welcomed the guests. Mohtrama Sheherbanoo Gullar, the Convenor of Ladies Committee then briefed the audience with a little history of the course. The students were then encouraged to represent as anchors and to give Vote of Thanks. The Guests of Honour, namely Mrs. Zaibunnisa Millwala, Mrs. Farida Agboatwala, Mrs. Gulbanoo Dhanani and other Honorary Faculty members were felicitated with shawls. The certificates were awarded to successful students followed by lunch.
